How to get ThereMerimbula is situated directly on the coast on the main Princes Highway 1 hour from the Victorian border in the far south coast southern forests area of NSW, just 15minutes from the seaport of Eden. It is well known for spectacular scenery, of mountains, lakes & rivers, with pristine beaches & estuaries [it is the watershed of the alps].
Alternatively, be as adventurous as you care & find your way through a number of our glorious forgotten byways, old gold towns & bullock stops – from Gundagai to Omeo, Majors Creek and Walhalla.
When you arrive near MERIMBULA – to get to HC HILLCREST From the South - Melbourne direction: On entering Pambula Village 10k south turn right at the roundabout [top pub cnr] and follow scenic drive to Merimbula. This passes the golf course & airport immediately before reaching the town 50k limit. Turn left & cross bridge past hotel & Macdonalds [at traffic light]. Continue over intersection turn 90 degree left at PO, then simply follow Merimbula Drive [Old Princes hwy] past Caltex service station [on right] away from the lake, up through cutting curving right to crest of hill, past Norfolk Pine Motel. 150 metres past you will notice glorious view on the right over town & HC HILLCREST MOTOR INN [1.5K FROM PO] immediately before lookout. From the North - Canberra or Sydney direction: You will bypass the small old gold mining village of Wolumla [on the right] 10k away. Continuing on the main highway passing Yellow Pinch wildlife Park on the right. 4k from Merimbula is the junction of the Merimbula Top Lake bypass –[do not turn right to take this road]- continue on slightly bearing left. You are now following the old Princes hwy into Merimbula. As you crest a rise & reach the town limit [60k] the road becomes renamed Merimbula Drive. 500m on the left is the town lookout & the HC HILLCREST MOTOR INN [1.5km from the PO] overlooking the town, lake & ocean. |
