Area Towns:

From Bateman’s Bay through to Eden are a number of very pretty coastal towns & villages, all connected by sealed road. Oyster leases abound in the numerous tidal estuaries. Much of the road takes you through coastal farmland [almost always very green], along magnificent beaches, forests & towering ocean cliffs. There is no doubt that the southern NSW coastline is one of the most scenic in the world.

In your journey a day trip up the coast road as far as Narooma-Wallaga lakes or Bateman’s Bay & back, ideally through the Bega Valley & Candelo is especially memorable.

Some of the towns you will encounter:

Coastal
Bateman’s Bay, Narooma, Tilba Tilba, Bermagui, Tathra, Pambula, Eden
Inland
Wyndham, Candelo, Bega, Bemboka, Bombala, Dalgety, Nimmitabel, Jindabyne.

There are also a variety of most interesting journeys that venture into Victoria, through Delegate to Cann River, as far as Lakes Entrance & Metung. A normal car is fine for all these roads, which now only [some say it’s a shame] have short sections unsealed by & large.

For 4 wheel [& all wheel] enthusiasts - DID YOU KNOW - there’s a great road between Braidwood & Nowra along the spine of the Great Dividing Range –all unsealed, but excellent for the experienced & adventurous driver – talk of alternate lifestyle, right down to a bark hut hotel still operating [far north Queensland – eat your heart out]. You will be amazed at the animals [llamas, camels, buffalos etc], not to mention the native wildlife.

HAVE YOU TRAVERSED The Barry Way – it is the range road at the back of Jindabyne that cuts down the top of the Snowy River [great camping, trout fishing & canoeing], goes through Suggan Buggan [& Seldom Seen]. It comes out at Buchan & the renowned Buchan caves, or you can flip out via the famous Mary McKillop Bridge & cut back via Delegate & Bombala. This drive is not to be missed for the expert. A full day trip from Merimbula.

Alternatively, if a warm up run is required, why not try a trip back through Thredbo & Dead Horse Gap to Khancoban & Cabramurra, the purpose built Snowy Scheme town [& Australia’s highest.

We have all the maps etc required, PLUS we really have been there.
